The Slipper Chapel

Following the dissolution, the slipper Chapel was not demolished, but was used for various purposes, including as a cowshed. In 1896 a wealthy Catholic convert, Charlotte Pearson Boyd, bought the building, and restoration began. In 1897 it was re-established as a Catholic shrine. Restoration continued, and in 1934 the mass was celebrated for the first time in nearly 400 years, and it was named the National Shrine of Our Lady.
