Wenlock Priory, Shropshire

In Much Wenlock, Shropshire. Refounded as a Cluniac priory c 1080 on the site of a 7th century monastery. The founder was Roger de Montgomery. It is said to be the burial place of St Milburga (died 727) who became the abbess of the priory after escaping from the prospect of an arranged marriage.
A beautiful surviving feature is the lavabo, where monks washed themselves before eating. Here are carving of Christ and the apostles. These are replicas of the originals; those have been taken indoors to avoid frost damage.
