Leon Cathedral

The gothic cathedral of Santa María de León dates from the thirteenth century. the north tower and the cloister date from the fourteenth century, and the south tower was completed by1472.  It has what is considered to be the finest and most extensive collection of medieval stained glass in Europe, and is full of wonderful art, especially sculpture.
The cathedral had a serious fire in 1966, the equivalent of the recent Notre Dame fire in Paris. Restoration was a major task, but completed successfully.
